Whale watching & Cayo Levantado

Experience the thrill of humpback whale watching in Samaná, where every year between January and March, these magnificent creatures migrate to the bay to mate and give birth. Witnessing this extraordinary natural spectacle is an emotional and awe-inspiring experience, filled with beauty, power, and unforgettable moments.

After the whale-watching adventure, we will spend the rest of the day at the stunning beaches of Cayo Levantado, also known as Bacardi Island — a true tropical gem you simply can’t miss while visiting Samaná. Its turquoise waters, white sandy beaches, and endless palm trees create a breathtaking setting, perfect for complete relaxation and disconnection.

The excursion departs from the Santa Bárbara de Samaná Port, with a 20 to 30-minute boat ride to the Marine Mammal Sanctuary, where this once-in-a-lifetime experience begins.

Note: This excursion is conducted on vessels authorized by the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Tourism, in full compliance with all safety regulations and conservation guidelines established for the Samaná Bay Marine Mammal Sanctuary.

We love families and are delighted to create lasting memories for them. To protect your children, we have clear policies for every tour. On this tour, the minimum age for children is 10 years old.

We recommend bringing sun protection (cloth/cream), sunglasses, a towel, and sandals.

How we spend the day

Please find below the details of the excursion. Bear in mind that the listed hours are approximations and might change due to traffic. Any delays will be communicated via mail or phone.

Meeting point

We will start our journey at the parking of the Punta Popy beach. Our shuttle will take us to the village of Samaná where a boat is already waiting for us.

Marine Mammal Sanctuary

Our first destination is the Marine Mammal Sanctuary, a bay in which you get a rare glance at a spectacle of nature. Observe the scenery as humpback whales come together to mate and give birth to the next generation.

Cayo Levantado

Next we will head to the famous Bacardi island where you can relax under palm trees, play some beach volleyball or try different kinds of water activities. Cayo Levantado also offers a cocktail bar and typical dominican cuisine. Here we will have lunch (buffet).

Return journey

After all those great experiences we will bring you back safely to Punta Popy where we started the journey.
